6 “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
If the resurrection of Jesus is just a metaphor or a myth, then the Christian faith is a tragedy. But if it is true, it is the most significant event in human history. In our service on April 5, 2026, Pastor Ernest Godfrey delivered a powerful reminder: “We have the evidence.” We don’t follow a “feeling”; we follow a living King who left behind an empty tomb that no government or bribe could explain away.
The Failed Cover-Up Matthew 28:11-15 records a moment of desperate damage control. After the ground shook and the stone was moved, the Roman guards—battle-hardened professionals—didn’t report to the disciples. They went straight to the religious leaders. These leaders didn’t argue that the tomb was still full; they knew the testimony was true. Their only move was to offer “large money” to buy a lie.
The bribe was simple: “Say His disciples stole the body while we slept.” But logically, this falls apart. If a soldier is asleep, how does he know who stole the body? If he is awake, how does a group of terrified disciples bypass an armed Roman guard? The very existence of this funded lie serves as historical evidence for the truth it tried to hide.
Eyewitnesses to the Impossible The Gospel of Luke (Chapter 24) provides a detailed account of the aftermath. From the women at the tomb to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, the evidence was physical. Jesus ate with them. He invited them to touch His hands. He expounded the Scriptures to show that His suffering was the plan all along. This wasn’t a group of people hoping for a ghost; they were skeptics who were transformed by the undeniable presence of a dead man who was now alive.
Life Application If the resurrection is true, Jesus has ultimate authority over your life, your sin, and your future.
- Stop Living in Uncertainty: You don’t serve a “dead guru”; you serve the God who defeated the grave.
- Trust the Word: The Bible is consistent, historical, and proven.
- Walk in Victory: If death couldn’t hold Him, your current trial cannot defeat you when you are in Him.
Your Triumph In Him: Jesus’s death and triumphant resurrection meant that He conquered death, sin, satan and the world. Because He lives we can face tomorrow. So all those who trust in Him, who have accepted Him as their Lord and personal savior, will equally rise again when the Trump of God sounds! Hallelujah!
