You Can Know: Resting in the Finished Work of Christ
Few burdens are heavier than trying to earn acceptance before God. Across the world, many belief systems teach that acceptance must be achieved through human effort. The message is often the same: do more, be better, work harder, and perhaps, in the end, you will be accepted.
But that approach leaves one haunting question unanswered: Have I done enough?
Jesus Christ came to remove that uncertainty. Rather than placing another burden upon weary souls, He offers rest, peace, and confidence rooted in His finished work.
The Certainty of the Father’s House
In John 14:1–3, Jesus spoke words that continue to comfort believers today:
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.”
These words are not merely comforting—they are authoritative. Jesus does not speculate about eternity. He speaks with certainty because He is the Son of God. He is not describing a possibility; He is declaring a promise.
When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, we are not simply joining another religion. We are entering into a relationship with the One who conquered death and prepared an eternal home for His people. Our confidence is not based upon wishful thinking. It is based upon the Person who cannot lie.
Faith in Jesus—Not Faith in Faith
Many people speak about “having faith.” But faith itself is not what saves. The object of our faith matters. A person may sincerely believe something that is completely false. Sincerity alone does not create truth.
Our confidence rests entirely upon Jesus Christ. He alone willingly gave His life for sinners. He alone rose again from the dead. His resurrection is God’s declaration that the payment for sin has been fully accepted.

This is the great difference between religion and the Gospel: religion depends upon human achievement; the Gospel depends upon Christ’s finished work.
The Evidence of Assurance
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is more than a historical event. It is God’s receipt that redemption has been completed. Because Jesus lives, believers no longer have to wonder whether salvation is possible. They can know.
Our assurance is not rooted in our own consistency but in Christ’s unchanging character. Even when believers struggle, His promises remain true. His finished work never changes, and His grace never fails.
Living from Acceptance, Not for Acceptance
One of the greatest freedoms found in the Gospel is understanding that obedience is the result of salvation—not the means of obtaining it.
Christians do not perform good works to earn God’s love. They obey because they have already received His love. Good works become an expression of gratitude rather than an attempt to purchase acceptance.
The believer serves God from security, not fear; from assurance, not uncertainty; and from love, not obligation.
A Moment to Examine Your Heart
Take a moment to consider:
- Am I trusting in my performance or in Christ’s finished work?
- Do I live with peace, or do I constantly fear whether I have done enough?
- Am I serving God out of gratitude rather than guilt?
Remember: the debt has been paid, the resurrection confirms the victory, and Jesus has prepared a place for all who believe in Him.
Because of Him, you can live with confidence today and hope for eternity.
A Prayer of Assurance
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to accomplish what we could never accomplish ourselves. Help us to rest in His finished work instead of trusting in our own efforts. Strengthen our faith, deepen our assurance, and fill our hearts with the peace that comes from knowing that our hope is secure in Christ.
